PharmCAS Recommender Packet: What Pharmacy Applicants Should Send

Prepare a pharmacy school evaluator with program rules, relevant experiences, deadlines, and firsthand evidence prompts without drafting the recommendation for them.

Applicants8 min readUpdated August 4, 2026

Pharmacy school evaluators may know one part of your record well—a lab, course, pharmacy, clinic, workplace, or service program—but not the full application. A focused packet supplies the missing context while preserving the evaluator’s independent voice.

Research every program before requesting an evaluation because schools can prefer or require particular relationships.

Verify every school’s evaluator rules

Use the Pharm.D. School Directory and the program’s current instructions to record the number and type of evaluations, deadline, and any school-specific prompt. Do this before entering the evaluator in PharmCAS.

  • Required or preferred evaluator roles
  • Maximum or minimum number
  • Program deadline
  • Additional school-specific submission

Assemble a pharmacy-focused profile

Include a concise résumé and relevant coursework, pharmacy exposure, healthcare employment, research, service, leadership, certifications, and career context. Emphasize what helps this particular evaluator interpret the applicant’s path.

Supply verifiable moments

Offer short memory prompts, not polished praise. Good prompts may involve catching an error, learning a difficult process, explaining a concept, helping a patient or customer, collaborating during a busy period, or responding constructively to feedback.

  • Situation
  • Your role
  • Observable action
  • Outcome
  • What the evaluator directly witnessed

Set up the PharmCAS handoff

Confirm the evaluator’s preferred email address, explain that the request comes from PharmCAS/Liaison Letters, and choose a requested completion date before the program deadline. Monitor the status and follow up respectfully.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Match the evaluator to program rules, provide focused pharmacy context and firsthand reminders, then let the evaluator complete the official PharmCAS submission.

COMPLETE DESTINATION GUIDE

Keep the pharmacy school requirements in view.

PharmCAS evaluations are submitted electronically by evaluators through Liaison Letters. Applicants may enter up to four evaluations, but each PharmD program can set its own evaluator-role and relationship requirements. Completed evaluations cannot be removed or replaced, so verify every program before making requests.
