Pharmacy admissions committees do not need another copy of the applicant’s activity list. They need an evaluator’s judgment about how the person works when precision, learning, communication, service, and responsibility matter.

Use examples within your actual relationship. A pharmacist, professor, research mentor, supervisor, or service leader may each offer a different but valuable view.

Define what you can evaluate

State your title, the applicant’s role, the setting, duration, frequency of contact, and responsibilities you observed. Note whether supporting facts came from the applicant rather than your direct experience.

Show one high-value behavior

Develop a detailed example involving accuracy, problem-solving, ethical responsibility, scientific learning, service, or response to feedback. Explain the circumstances, action, outcome, and your interpretation.

  • What standard or challenge mattered
  • What the applicant did
  • How carefully and independently the person worked
  • Who benefited
  • What the behavior predicts

Add a complementary example

Use a second moment to show communication, teamwork, resilience, initiative, or maturity. If the applicant worked around medications or patients, stay within their authorized role and avoid disclosing protected information.

Connect evidence to PharmD readiness

Explain why the observed behaviors support success in professional pharmacy education. Avoid generic claims such as “will be a great pharmacist” unless the letter supplies the evidence and your vantage point supports the conclusion.

Complete the full PharmCAS evaluation

Review the program instructions, answer required ratings or prompts consistently with the narrative, upload the final letter yourself, and submit through the official Liaison Letters request.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Make precision, responsibility, learning, communication, and service visible through examples only you can honestly provide.

COMPLETE DESTINATION GUIDE

Keep the pharmacy school requirements in view.

PharmCAS evaluations are submitted electronically by evaluators through Liaison Letters. Applicants may enter up to four evaluations, but each PharmD program can set its own evaluator-role and relationship requirements. Completed evaluations cannot be removed or replaced, so verify every program before making requests.
