Pharmacy School Letters of Recommendation: A PharmCAS Guide

A pharmacy school evaluation should help an admissions committee understand how the applicant handles accuracy, responsibility, science, service, communication, and teamwork. The writer’s firsthand examples—not a list of pharmacy-related activities—make that assessment credible.

PharmCAS evaluation workflow

PharmCAS evaluations are submitted electronically by evaluators through Liaison Letters. Applicants may enter up to four evaluations, but each PharmD program can set its own evaluator-role and relationship requirements. Completed evaluations cannot be removed or replaced, so verify every program before making requests.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pharmacy school recommendation questions, answered.

How many PharmCAS evaluations can an applicant request?

PharmCAS currently permits a maximum of four evaluations. Individual pharmacy schools may require fewer, prefer particular evaluator roles, or provide additional instructions, so applicants must research each program.

Who should write a pharmacy school recommendation?

Choose someone who meets the programs’ rules and knows your work well. Possible evaluators include pharmacists, science faculty, research mentors, healthcare supervisors, employers, or service leaders.

Can an applicant submit a PharmCAS letter for the evaluator?

No. PharmCAS says evaluations must be submitted electronically by the evaluators themselves through Liaison Letters and cannot be completed or submitted by the applicant or another party on their behalf.

What should a PharmD recommendation discuss?

Useful letters connect firsthand evidence to qualities such as accuracy, integrity, scientific reasoning, communication, teamwork, service, resilience, and readiness for professional pharmacy education.
